Had a broken rear transmission mount and decided to go all out and clean up the bottom end of the tranny while I was at it. Replaced mount, then, drained fluid, removed pan and lower valve assembly to check the condition of the check balls. Everything looked good, gave it a general clean up and reassembled. With everything back and running, I found I was unable to put it into drive. Park, reverse and neutral all seem fine; but the shifter completely binds up at that point.
So, disassemble once again, this time removing the entire valve assembly. Checked the selector rod and parking pawl and all seems fine. Put valves back in and checked shifter movement and it's back to binding again. I reasoned that it may be something to do with line pressure and/or linkage adjustment and put it all together again.
Fluids topped up , warmed up to reasonable operating temp- same thing. Works in Park, Reverse and neutral then the shifter hits a wall. The console is out and nothing is blocking the shifter and I've tried adjusting the linkage through the range but it won't find the forward gears.
Any thoughts?
