I agree with you: I don't like this "feature" either.
I'm not sure of what triggers the logic sequence. I always assumed it was the switch that activates the dome light when the driver's door is opened because you can lock to doors from the inside when the door is closed.
You could try this: Open the door, and push the dome light switch in with your finger. Then see if the doors will lock from the interior. If they do, you know you're on the right track.
Keyless is also pretty easy to install... you might want to give it a try.
