Moving shock mounts to the front 444-544

When I put the discs on the front of my PV I'd say that about half the time was spent cursing and pounding and fighting with those shock bolts. The bottoms do fit in the same way as the tops, it just seems like they tend to bind into place a bit more.

One of the lower one wouldn't budge at all, so I eventually devolved into pounding on it with a bigger hammer (I had the arm completely removed, delightful the way the suspension comes apart so easily on a PV isn't it!). Finally got it off at the expense of mushrooming the nut rather badly. I slackened the nut and pounded on that instead of the bolt, as the bolt would have immediately mushroomed). But some work with a file got it back into a fain semblance of life. It didn't look too healthy upon reassembly, so I took the mig and lightly tacked it into place. Next time, if there is one, removal will take a little angle grinder action too.

Unless you don't mind the lower shock mount restricting your turning angle when the steering arm hits it near lock, then you'll need to angle the bolt, and install it with it pointin inwards. I took an angle grinder to the thick bolt head section beween the shock and the arm, and cut a deep V 95% of the way through. Then I bent the V closed, and welded the closed cut shut. No problems so far in 3 years (+/-) with some Bilsteins on them.
