Oh, and to answer your question.... they used to have to bake them.... 444-544

When I worked for that shop (see my other message), when they put new linings on shoes using "bonding" (instead of rivets), they put the shoe and lining in a big oven to bake!

I don't know if there's any modern substitute that wouldn't require such a baking step.
