Comatose on the road 700 1988

It does seem that the main pump is making its usual racket when started.

Wierd note! I had it towed home and planned on testing the low fuel symptom. So I filled my 5 gallon can and put it in the trunk and proceeded to drive around for about 2 hours waiting for it to die again. It would NOT!

I note that it was a cooler day - probably 70 degrees. The day it stalled was mid 90s. Is there something that could be so significantly affected by the ambient temperature?
