Volvo designs a lot of understeer into their cars -- it's considered the safer mode (compared to oversteer) for most average drivers -- and this is partly achieved by the alignment specs. But that does put a lot of scrubbing on the outer edge of the front tires.

Some folks have had their cars realigned to make their front tires more vertical, and they report that it helps -- but it will affect (reduce) your understeer.

You can help a little, though, without going to the trouble of choosing new alignment specs, just by increasing your front (and rear, to balance it out) tire pressure -- the tire will roll over the outer edge less, and therefore won't wear it out as fast.

I've never minded this small amount of extra wear -- I'm fanatical about my tires anyway (studded Nokian snows in winter, Michelin Pilots in summer), and I've always found that by the time the outer edge is noticeably worn, the rest of the tire is also worn too much for my satisfaction and I'm ready to replace them.

Anyway, on another but related topic, aren't you impressed by the tire wear in the rear? I've had a half dozen 240's over the years, as well as two 164s, and I continue to be impressed by the way my rear tires on all these cars wear so flat and uniformly -- i.e., they wear down perfectly flat, and perfectly perpendicular to the vertical axis of the tire/wheel. It's always incredible to see such perfect wear. And this is in all my 164 through 240's. I know I'm strange, but I just get impressed seeing this.
