Yes, a good indicator is presece of miles registered on the trip odometer. You can be sure if the gear broke, the PO reset to zero, where it stayed until scrapped. Sure sign of a broken gear is no mileage on a JY car. Also, you will want a speedometer from an 86-88 only. Rather, you might just want the gear from that speedo.
