Hey, don't laugh... when I got my '83 that is EXACTLY what the PO had done. He subscribed to the 'if it can't be fixed with duct tape and a big hammer, it can't be fixed' school of thought. Took me a while to scrape all the burnt ATF residue off the exhaust. I HATE the smell of burning ATF!!!
