Percussion Engineering 120-130

The hub popped right off with just a little external persuasion. Thanks much for the tip.

The steel gears aren't noisy at all -- not! At idle there is just the slightest additinional whine in the B18's song. Once the revs start climbing, the whine turns turbo-like until the exhaust and induction volume masks everything else. I suppose its something you get used to. Its just another tonal tool to monitor the engine's health.

Here are a couple of pics of the old timing gear. This was a replacement gear installed by me last summer (8K miles ago).

The mechanic who installed the steel gears said that he saw nothing amiss with my installation of the fiber gear. The only thing I can think of was that this was a very old fiber gear and had become brittle due to heat and/or UV exposure over the years.

I'm glad that the steel gears got replaced before the fiber gear self destructed.
