I also heard that due to the use of the oil sprayers to keep the piston skirts cool, the pistons are slightly larger in diameter, because in theory there'll be less thermal expansion so the tolerances can be closer - and thus minimize cold piston slap. I can't say for sure this is true, but I think it makes sense in theory, and the couple of L-blocks I've heard are definitely quieter...
