Hey Simon,
Do your volt drop test from the battery + down to the starter and see what you get. You can do that volt test anywhere in that circuit and when you get both leads onto the circuit BEFORE the resistance that is eating up your current the 1.6 drop will go away. I would start right at the battery post and the battery terminal and work you way down. You do not really want to be piercing the insulation on the cable but it will allow you to narrow it down to which cable and if it is just the cable end. If the corrosion is wicking up underneath the plastic sheath I would trash that cable and buy a new one. Cleaning it up works well for awhile but it eventually come right back worse than ever.
Did you get some new tires on that beast yet?
