Mystery fuse

I couldn't tell from my Bentley manual whether or not the '92 still had that fuse. The fuse was located on the left side, inner fender near the battery. There was a small metal bar fastened to the fender and on this bar was a terminal strip covered with a black plastic cap. Wires ran to this terminal strip from the positive battery cable. The high-low dimmer relay is nearby. The 25 amp fuse holder was also mounted on this bar. However, in most of the 240's I've owned, the plastic mounting tab of the fuse holder had broken off and the holder was dangling by its wires.

This fuse holder is more exposed to heat and moisture than it should be. That is the reason the fuse corrodes and the holder disintegrates. I replaced the holder and fuse in my daughter's '84 240 with a nice, new waterproof holder from a auto supply store. I'd bet they all carry them. The new holder didn't have a mounting tab so I taped it to the metal bar.

When this fuse corrodes, the car's computer has power intermittantly with stalling problems.
