I am getting a semi severe judder on take off. It kind of feels like bad u-joints but it only occurs when taking off in 1st gear. The judder will not occur if minimum throttle is used when taking off. There is no judder shifing into any other gear or any other condition except for starting from a dead stop (forward or reverse).
All new u-joints were installed last fall. The problem started about three weeks ago. I just put a new tranny mount in this morning. No change.
While under the car the drive shaft was checked for play but all seemed tight. The drive shaft could be rotated a few degrees before movement was restricted at the differential. Is this normal? If not, should I start shopping for a new rear end or rear end mechanic?
The rear bushings are old and cracked but not terrible loose and are still pliable.
One other thing - the judder is less of a problem as the car warms up. Perhaps the problem is in the engine bay rather than at the rear. It is just that the judder feels like it is coming from the rear.
Thanks for any enlightenment,
