Shifting problems 200

My first post and 240. I have a 1990 240 with 177K. She has a automatic transmission with a 3rd gear underdrive. The other day I was driving to work on the highway at 70 mph in cruise control and the transmission shifted down to third gear on its own. I have not been able to run it right since, I can only get the transmission to third gear. I am not sure were to go from here. Should i do a fluid and filter change, or replace the solenoid on the transmission. I love this car and i hope to have it for many years. thanks for any help.
