Hi everyone,
I am suspecting others might have had this problem... my driver side door can not be opened from the outside (but can be, from the inside). I found out the problem: It's a little part inside/behind the door handle that is broken and hence not able to move the lever that moves the latch). I went to the dealer, was told I have to buy the entire door handle (not any sub-component), given some insane price (as usual!) and told that it only comes unpainted so I have to paint it to match the white colour of the car!
-Have anyone of you had this problem? how'd you fix it?
-Any online parts sources (used or new)?
The other problem I have is the AC working intermittently. I have ruled out lack of refrigerant, as when it works it puts out VERY cold air, but after driving for 30 min. or so it will rapidly increase the temp. until it puts out hot air (well may not be HOT air per se, but the outside air which feels like it's putting out the "heater" air!). Quite a few times it does start working again after I turn it off for 15 min. or so (only to go back to hot again) -Anyway by that time, on a hot day (we are finally getting some hot weather here in CA!), I look like I just came out of a burning oven! I took it to the mechanic but "we can't check it, coz, it doesn't do it here" :O) -hopefully I'll take it back again to see if it does it. Lately it has been happening quite frequently. Any ideas what might be the cause?
Can the turn signal/hazard flasher be fixed? (oooh, I remember doing all kinds of "home-repairs" on my very first ' 72 164E -ah those were the days!). I am presuming there's either soot build up on the relay contacts or the metal contact strip is simply "tired" -hey they say metal does get tired you know :O) but I am sure if the soot can be cleaned up it'll be back to normal....
Thanks for all the help in advance!
Kenny
