I am so glad to hear the the DRLs would still work if the switch is kaput.
When mine went out - last week - I finally thought of that, but when I put in the small screwdriver and pushed a bit to turn the little screw, the screwdriver just went on in like a half-inch. After that the parks quit, too. So I had no idea if the DRL idea would have worked.
Thanks, I will remember for next time. I noted that the Volvo dealership stocks two of three of them - so they still can break. The might be used on the 850s, they look the same.
