engine cutting back /dying while driveing 700 1985

The problem I was haveing before was that sometimes when driveing it would just die. I read a insert one time that said to hit the side of the console or slam the passengers side door. when I did these things it would crank back up so, I assumed it was the fuel pump relay. Now when it does it I can pump the gas pedal while it is dying and it will run a little longer, before it wouldn't even do that. Is there somekind of relay that on the pasengers side firewall, that would have something to do with slamming the passengers door?
