If the engine isn't running and you exercise the gas pedal, won't that just tell you that the TPS is working? I believe the engine must be cranking to determine that the trigger points are working, as they're activated by the movement of the distributor. Or do I misunderstand?

Another possibility - the injectors are grounded in pairs - perhaps one of the paired-ground-wires has been compromised.
