Hello, Wayne,
I, also, have the Crane XR700 optical system on my '69 144s, B20B stock engine. But I am having some trouble with ignition. The spark quality I am getting is such that the spark is merely orange, instead of blue-white. It is so weak it won't even trigger a timing light!
I reinstalled the Crane unit, believing it may not have been aligned or adjusted quite right. No improvement.
On my thread about "Battery Drain" (which I now believe to be something else), Mapleleafer is helping me shift through some electrical questions, among which is, is there proper engine-to-body ground?
Anyhow, I am intrigued by your excitement over the ignition set up you have.
When installing and aligning the XR700 shutter wheel, when you tested for placing the pick up on the "leading edge" of the shutter slots, what kind of grounded coil wire spark did you get? As I said, mine is orange. Did you bet a better looking color?
Do you have any numbers about the coil's Ohm specs if your measure between terminal #1 and #15, and between #1 and the central tower?
(I am trying to determine the health of my stock Bosch black coil, and of a Bosch Blue coil I also have)
Finally, what is the Mallory coil you have. If I need a replacement coil, maybe I'll just upgrade.
Thanks
