This picture should help. The jackstand is under the frame, and the jack is under the jacking point. The view is left side of the car, looking forward.
The jack points have a bar or pin horizontally through them, that the factory jack is supposed to lock into. If this isn't engaged correctly, the factory jack top will bend, and many of them are bent.
One is behind each front wheel, out near the outer edge of the floor, and one in front of each rear wheel. They stick down in their own little extension of the frame.
You can safely place a jack stand under the frame rail near the pivots of the front suspension. Do not place a jack or jack stand under the flat parts of the floor.
Note that if your car is like this one (my old 87 244) there can be rust issues to deal with. Even in rusty cars, the frame rails are almost always solid- but be sure what you're jacking up is not rusted.
Above all, be safe doing this. I lost a friend last year when his Chevy pickup fell on top of him. :(
