Spring Pin or Roll pin

I can not visualize what you are dealing with but have to wonder if you have enough room to utilize a C-clamp of the correct size to press it into place? A large pair of adjustable channel lock pliers also comes to mind.

Making it as small as possible might make the insertion a bit easier so perhaps throw it into the freezer for a period of time? A coating of anti-sieze or grease to lube it?
