Hello vacuum:
It depends on the climate where you live-- here in the "rust belt" there is often dissimilar metals corrosion between the steering u-joint and the shafts. I tried the screw in the joint trick and plenty of banging with a drift and a hammer-- still no go.
I ended up making a rare trip to the shop with it-- they apparently used a long shafted air impact hammer to get it going.
You can get a good used one-- I did on mine. The OEM joints are really pricey. E-bay has them on occasion.
Good luck!
