Most of them work fine. The leaks can be an issue- as noted drains must be kept clear for the thing to make you happy.
They do need regular tightening of the mechanism, meaning pulling the handle off and tightening all screws underneath. That and possibly some lithium grease spray into the tracks, and the sunroof should behave itself for a long time.
I love the one in my 745. A nice simple manual unit. Fortunately the 240s were not afflicted with expensive power sunroof motors, so at least those don't go bad.
Repairing one is a bit of an art form- you'll want to find a Volvo specialty shop to do it right. It's just a bit tricky how they come apart, that's all- most mechanics I doubt have the patience for it.
