1990 740 wagon - tailgate lock

The tailgate lock wasn't working, and the mechanic tells us it disintregated while he was investigating, so I have no existing assembly to refer to for the installation of the new keyed lock ($$$$) from the dealer.

The new assembly comes with the cylinder, and the arms, complete with plastic clips, that hook onto the metal rod. Given the tight workspace, it looks as though the c-clip should be removed, the arms/plastic clips attached to the rod from the inside, the cylinder inserted from the outside, and then the arms and c-clip re-attached in place. It this the correct procedure?

And if so, what is the orientation of the cylinder and the arms. It looks as though the rod runs to the driver's side. Is this correct?

Thanks for any help.
