Glad to hear this old trick worked for you.
I suppose the size and amount of cord depends on the combustion chamber volume and how far down the piston is when you stuff the cord in.
About 3 1/2' works for me on the B230, starting with the piston 1/4 down in the bore (more space seems to make it easier to feed the cord in). But when I start turning back CCW to loosen the bolt, the resistance doesn't start until the piston is getting close to the top.
