could engine and transmission mounts be causing problems? 200

bricksters,

posted a couple of times recently concerning various problems my 89 245 auto with 250k has had in last few months. i.e. oil light coming on when shifting and other various shifting difficulties. while looking at oil sending unit wires near oil filter, i noticed not much room in there anymore and motor mount feels very spongy. mounts have never been changed since i've owned it ( 130k). i was wondering if any of these woes could be caused by the motor mount(s) failing and needing replacement? if so, any things i need to be aware of in technique ( lifting point underneath etc) other than on faq's when i change these out with oem's?

thanks,
gary c.
