Herb,

The hole is 9/16".

I remove the retainer and gasket from the cap and then center drill it with a twist bit to create a pilot hole. I then use a step drill to achieve the 9/16. The schrader valve pulls into place. I center drill the retainer and then use the step drill to drill it out to 3/4". Install the rubber gasket and the drilled out retainer snaps in to hold it in place.
