camshaft 140-160 1974

Not really, it can be done with the engine in the car. You need a means of pulling the timing gear of the front of the camshaft.

Basically you:

Remove the fan, drain the coolant (dispose of safely, deadly to domestic animals as well as children. Adults too for that matter but they are less tempted to drink it. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/w...re/4701360.stm

Remove radiator and radiator grille.

Remove timing cover.

Remove timing gear and thrust plate.

remove the head from the engine.

Remove cam followers from block.

Remove distributor followed by oil pump drive.

Remove fuel pump.

Pull cam out forwards taking care not to trash its bearings.

Salvage ring on front of cam!!!!!!

When you refit take care not to push the coreblig in the back of the engine out, or you'll be practising gearbox removal!

New followers are essential.

New timing gear is advisable.

Worth looking at the valves, guides and guide seals.

Pete
