Dielectric grease shouldn't hurt.
I presume you're talking about a sedan? You should tell us.
I did one of those open-up-the-contacts-block jobs a couple months ago on a '90 240 sedan. I believe the contacts in the nylon thing are silver. If you pry them out of the nylon you can squeeze the tips just a bit closer together. Wipe the copper patches on the circuit 'board' gently; I think that stuff is pretty thin.
And of course clean up the contacts in the bulb holders as best you can.
