Incidentally early cars had a separate pump and washer bottle which sat on the other side of the car. The wiring for that setup was in this the dynamo wiring.
The wire basket often seem on US cars is actually a PV part. All European cars left the factory with washer bottles, and the wire basket was never used.
Very late European dual circuit cars had the washer bottle as seen in the link but moved to the front of the engine compartment.
