If it's not incredibly dirty, I'd use Lemon Joy dishwashing detergent. Put it in a spray bottle, dilute with water, spray all over, let sit for 30 minutes and hose off. Repeat as necessary.

If it is incredibly dirty, I'd start with WD-40 to get all the grease off, then do the Joy to remove the WD-40.

Cover the distributor as well as the air cleaners, and try not to spray directly into the generator or alternator.
