I should have thought of that.

Regardless, you should disable the hot air intake system. The word on this board is that the air box thermostat fails in the "pull in hot air" mode which cooks the AMM. Checking the t'stat is inconvenient to say the least so it's easy for it to fail.

The easiest semi-disabling method is to make sure the aluminum flexible pipe is not still connected to the shroud on the exhaust manifold. Usually by now they have disintegrated anyway. Aim whatever is left of the flex tube away from the exhaust piping.

More thorough and more effective is to open the airbox as in replacing the air filter, then remove complete thermostat or prop open the flapper so it always pulls fresh air from large opening in air box which faces the driver's fender. Cap off the other air box opening pointing towards the fan shroud. I used a cap from a spray can.
