I got an Actron CP9135 code reader for my 97. It plugs up to the connector on the console. You can buy it at Advance, Auto Zone or Pep Boys, 99 if on sale and 249.00 if not. It will give you a code and tell you what the code is. Also comes with a little book with the codes. Also will clear the codes. Very easy to use.

My daughter has one in her car and can hook it up and tell me the problem and I can tell her what to do.
