My 90 740 (american market) has an OBD 1 interface under the hood - Check the FAQ for pulling engine codes.

Anyway, it's a small black box (har har) about 1 in. by 3 in. mounted on or near the driver's strut tower.

Good luck, I'm driving to Sacramento now.
