Why not invest in a set of 55/100 halogen bulbs? They are cheap, and on high beam will fry the trees. I have them in my flathood 242DL and you can't overdrive your vision with them. And they draw maybe 4-5 amps each more on high beam than stock.
I prefer the 240 alternator when upgrading, and it's simple if you have any fabircating skills to make a fixed bracket on the three bolt holes on the B20 block to mount it. In so doing you can eliminate the stupid rubber bushes that Volvo used on the 240 stock mounting bracket. Like the stupid ones on the power steering pumps....don't get me started.....
