Re my 1981 242.
I have a K-cam on the way and I plan to do some work on the car. Let's make sure I got this right.
My plan is to:
1. Install the cam and change the timing belt and tensioner while I'm at it. I'm also getting an adjustable cam sprocket.
2. Replace the water pump as a preventative measure.
3. Flame trap maintenance.
4. Check dizzy, timing, etc.
My concern... should I get the valves adjusted? From the looks of that shim kit in iPd's catalog it looks very complicated. On my BMW 2002 I was able to adjust valves in 15 minutes using a feeler gauge and wrenches.
I don't know the entire maintenance history of this car so I want to play it safe. She has been good to me in the 1+ year I've had her.
Also if there's anything else I'm missing please let me know. I want to cover all the bases.
