Sounds like a dirty throttle body preventing the throttle plate from closing and triggering the TPS into "idle" mode. Can you hear a click at closed-throttle?

A good cleaning and a new gasket is usually all that's necessary.

That said, we just fixed a 93 940T that didn't want to idle, which turned out to be a bad 016 air mass meter. Your car is LH 2.2, so a different system, but potentially could experience the same failure.
