If you have a later engine block, you already have a mounting bolt hole and woudl need no adapter.
I was lucky enough to get not just one, but two 1967+ B18 blocks with the alternator mounting "ear" I initially picked up a Bosch 55 amp alternator from a junked 1975 245 (B-20 car). But even with new brushes it never performed very well. So I picked up a "fits 1975 volvo" 55 amp alternator from eBay, and installed it using a few heavy washers to get the spacing perfect. It works vey well, especially since I installed a rehabilitated circuit box.
However, I do have another 55amp bosch unit, taken from my 1971 P1800 parts donor. Sometimes it seemed a little low on power in the D-jet/AC P1800. I'm not sure which I'll go for when I drop the D-jet B20 into the Amazon.
Overall, an early-style bosch alternator has the advantage of bolting right on and not needing a new pulley.
