Timing belt replacement- what else should I replace? 200 1988

Leave the water pump alone if it isn't leaking. Mine's done 352,000 miles.

Check the timing belt tensioner spins freely and without any noise. I've never had to replace one, and if you take it off and emmerse in hot oil you can rejuvenate any dried up lubricant. Leave to drain and wipe scrupulously clean. Clean off any burnt-on rubber from the roller.

Check the camshaft front oil seal is OK. Don't touch it if it isn't leaking.

Remember to turn the engine two complete turns by hand after fitting the new belt, before refitting the cover, to check it is running straight. If it is not quite located on the sprockets you can ease it over while turning slowly. Then start up and watch it, then refit the covers. Loosen, then retighten, the tensioner nut after about 100 miles.
