This is the best that I have been able to figure out:

This tells you what is possible. Count the number of spark plugs. If 4, then your engine is a B21F since you are in the US. 6 means it is a B28F V6. There was no diesel that year in North America as far as I know. As mentioned already, DL vs GL refers to trim level.
