Shocks & strut replacement: My recent experience... 200 1986

Hey Amagill 19:

I bought a set of the Bilstein Heavy Duty shocks and struts from eshocks.com for $380 INCLUDING free shipping.

The sales person I spoke with did a good job answering my questions and they shipped the same day I ordered. I felt a huge difference when I put them on my car.

I replaced the ones from the factory in 1993 with genuine Volvo shocks and stuts, I think they are Boge, and they did a good job while the were on the car, however, the rears did make a funny sound, as other people here have mentioned from time to time. (I bought them mail order for appx $200.00) The car still felt good, but I had forgotten that 12 years had passed by since I had installed the replacements. When I took them off, I could compress the old shocks with my bare hands. The Bilstein's were another story. I had to use a small hydraulic jack to lift the lower control arm to install the new ones. I really like the HD's and I'm glad I spent the $120.00 or so extra than others currently out there! The Bilsteins are very nice quality.

Next project is the trailing arm bushings...

If it needs to be maintained, repaired or replaced on a 1990 240, I've probably done it. '90 240DL, 245K looking forward to 300K badge. >>You haven't really worked on a car until you draw blood<< :-}
