I rebuilt my broken dashboard using non-expanding foam sealant, carving and sanding it down and recovering the whole thing with flat black vinyl shelf liner. It was about 1/8" thick and somewhat strechy. I adhered it with 3M spray adhesive and put in the requisite stiching with some leatherworking thread.
I'm happy with the results and it's imprevious to heat warping. However, I plan on re-doing it and avoiding some of the stiching mistakes I made the first time.
Overall it was *very* inexpensive. I'm doubly glad that I didn't go with one of those economy covers.
