My new to me 1991 240 wagon with 175 K miles recently stalled out on my mom at the bank last week. I got it home, but it wanted to die everytime I let off of the gas. It would restart, but didn't want to stay running without giving it a little pedal. I started it with the AMM disconnected, and it would stay running ( not running well like this though ). I replaced with another 016 AMM and the same thing happened.
So, I read the trouble codes and got a 213 indicating a problem with the TPS. The throttle body was filthy and it was sticking when I tried to move it by hand. I cleaned it up, put it back on the car and it ran fine. It no longer quits when I let off the gas. The switch clicks, so I know it's adjusted correctly. My question is: would a dirty throttle body cause this problem? The car runs great now ( I drove it this evening with no problems ).
Thanks in advance.
