Thinking about a 780 -drawbacks? 700

Here's the kicker to the 780. I've only seen one in person that still had an intact airdam. And that one belonged to a 75 year old woman who bought it new and had 35k miles on it. No, she wasn't interested in selling. It had the prv motor anyway. It's a far more delicate car than any other Volvo from the same time period.

I had an 88 780 black/beige with the prv motor. Worst Volvo I ever owned, though that was because of the fact that the dealer I bought it from knew nothing about Volvos or the 780 in particular, so the rear suspension gave out (who knew that you had to use nivomats or do a conversion to use something else), and the prv motor had overheated once before and ended up melting while I owned it.

If you're going to buy a 780, make sure that the car is pristine and has all service records included with it. Also, have a Volvo mechanic who is intimately familiar with the 780 check it out for you. I thought I knew it all when I bought it and got burned hard. Four years later, I bought my next Volvo (after trying other brands), an 89 760 turbo (yes, it has the multilink IRS - with a proper conversion from the nivomats). If everything is sound mechanically and physically, the car should make you very very happy.
