windshield chrome installation 120-130

In my experience the trim (very soft aluminum, NOT chrome!) goes on fairly
easily IF you follow the manual's instructions at least in principle. Unfortunately
the principle is not explained in the manual.
If you are going to replace the gasket/seal, my guess is that you would do less
damage to the trim if you carefully took it off first and put it back on after
installing the windshield. The trick is that you have to push something into
the groove in the rubber to hold the lip up so you can get the flat aluminum
under it. In the manual they say use a 5mm round leather thong. I used a piece
of #12 stranded copper wire with vinyl insulation. This goes into the groove
and holds the lip up where you can get the trim in under it. I carefully slid
the trim in from the ends to avoid warping it, using some rubber lube. I'm
sure KY jelly or hand cleaner (NOT gritty) or some such would also work OK to
help it slip into place. Then pull the wire out from under the trim and work
it into exactly the right place. Don't forget the two buckles!
