simon, thanks for reporting back.

saw your post earlier and was going to write later.

i had the same problem last year on my 86 245.

one note, make sure the wire is stranded and a large enough gauge wire or the wire will heat up quite a bit.

i put on an 8 ga stranded wire as the alternator ground wire because i have added a number of electrical devices: extra fan, gauges, volvo euro headlights & wipers on my 86 245.

i bought the volvo ground wire and keep it in my glove box as a spare--i was traveling home from out of town at night and i didn't make it home--the battery went dead.

nice, satisfactory, feeling. good work.
