The electronics are poison, plain and simple. I've seen more electrical woes than I care to recall on a friend's 2000 VR6 Jetta, and half the Jettas I see are missing taillights on one side. Not my cup of tea, that's for sure. My '92 Golf (1.8 gas) was a gem though, still going strong at well over 300k. Ditto the '86 that passed 400k before succumbing to rust.
