Just from area considerations the area of a cylinder ΒΌ of its diameter tall
is the same as the end, so unless the valve is shrouded you don't gain much by
lifting more than a quarter of the valve's diameter. For a 46mm valve that
is .451". For a 44mm valve it would be .433" and for a 42mm valve it is .413"
There are some other considerations that flow bench testing doesn't show.
One is the amount of air the piston can suck through the port. Too easy a
flow = too low a velocity = not enough turbulence = poor mixing. That may be
why some B18s run better than some big-port B20s.
