Starter pinion 140-160 1974

Well, it went away as I was taking it to where I could work on it. Beforehand though, I had it isolated to the driver's side of the bell housing... which was what made me suspect the BW35 (other than it's reputation).

In any case, how does one free the gear with an automatic? Is this a solenoid issue?

I'll just grab another starter from the yard; I understand it was in use for something like 25 years, hopefully there's plenty to go around.

Cheers -Sean
