wiper would not stroke when the washer engaged.. :( 700 1990

'90 745 Turbo wagon:

The windshield wiper would not do its 2-3 sweeps when the washer sprays...
What could be the reason? Some relay? Seems that this happened after I washed the car. Notably, the the rear (tailgate) wiper works OK and sweeps together with the rear washer.
